The Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act was
was held back by the Wyoming senate committee on
Labor, Health and Social Services. The
committee expressed concern that the language of
the amendment was too broad, which could result
in unintended consequences.
The committee heard the
testimony of
Douglas Gerard. Mr. Gerard highlighted
the need to protect Wyomingites from any form of
socialized or mandated health care. He
emphasized the focus of the amendment is to
preserve the medical and health freedom of every
Wyomingite. After the committee meeting
Mr. Gerard said, "This was a great learning
experience. The senators' highlighted a
weakness or two in the amendment. I think
we can return next year with improved language
and get on the ballot for 2010."
The only organization that expressed
significant opposition to ensuring Wyomingites'
health liberty was the Wyoming lobbyist for the
AARP.
Despite the the setback, Wyoming's Future has
learned from the committee and is dedicated to
protect the medical liberty and health freedom.
Over the next several months Wyoming's Future
will continue its mission to protect our medical
liberty by:
Improve the amendment's language to
address the concerns of the committee.
Establish a statewide advisory panel of
civic, business and medical leaders.
Obtain the support of Wyoming's diverse
civic and business groups
Establish a political action committee
to raise funds to support the groups
operations.
Commission and fund a state wide poll to
determine the exact popularity of
ensuring Wyoming's medical liberty.
